Several Architectural Designs

The Architectural Garrison Design

An attractive house that includes a number of special features is a modern presentation for the traditional Garrison. A distinguishing feature is the overhanging second story. This construction technique includes a number of advantages. First the separate corner post on each floor make it possible to use shorter, stronger posts. Secondly The short straight lines provide economy in framing materials. Last but not least extra space is added at the second level by the overhang at very little extra cost. The steep pitch roof adds attic space. Narrow siding maintains the traditional styling.

The Salt Box Design

An interesting and easily recognizable Colonial is the Salt Box, it is a direct offshoot of the basic colonial half house, resulting in a long roofline sloping gently from ridge to eaves. Many of today’s beautiful homes have borrowed from this distinctive style, developed by master builders of early American times. The Salt Bo. House gets its name from the shape of coffee, tea, cracker, and salt boxes found in Colonial stores. The side elevations of these containers had the same general shape as this fascinating architectural style. Variations of this style are used to enhance many new homes.

The long low roofline at the rear of the house came about by the addition of “lean-to” structures being attached to add more living space. As further developments evolved, the low slanting roof was helpful in combating the bitter winds common to New England winters.

Differences Between Advertising And Marketing

There are many differences between advertising and marketing. While marketing as a whole encompasses many activities, advertising is considered a part of the marketing campaign.

Advertising is generally the outcome of a detailed study of various marketing aspects like product development, branding, target customers, etc. These marketing activities are a prelude to advertising and involve a lot of planning, research and control of various marketing elements like product, price, place, people, and physical attributes before it can be advertised to the target audience.

Advertising is the process of reaching out to the target audience and is a paid form of activity. It involves placing an advertisement in a medium like TV, print, billboards or the Internet and it involves a lot of planning.

Advertising has its own objectives of communicating the message across to the intended audience about the product or service offered. It has its own set of strategies and its own budget allocation within an organization. Marketing is an integral part of the organization with a dedicated work force who constantly works on market research, branding, product development, strategy, sales, revenue management, public relations, pricing and distribution.

Advertising takes a lot of monetary resources out of an organization and is a proven way of reaching out to maximum audience though higher spending, though an advertisement does not necessarily guarantee better sales and revenue. On the other hand, following proper marketing practices in various stages allows for better product or service, which closely matches customer requirements and thus directly benefiting advertising through effective communication.

Advertising tells prospective customers more about a product in a way that will most appeal to them. Marketing is the planning and the process in which advertising is supposed to appeal to prospects. A well-thought-out marketing process and market research help companies draw out an effective advertising campaign.

Post-Budget Review

The Chancellor introduced an eye-catching 2.5 per cent increase in VAT, a rise in capital gains tax, both large and small company corporation tax is to be reduced, and employers will be spared the increase in national insurance contributions planned by the last Government.

But what does the budget mean for you?

A Sole Trader As a sole trader, you will benefit from an increase in the personal income tax allowance. From next April, the tax-free allowance will increase by £1,000 to £7,475 per annum. This means you will not pay any income tax on the first £7,475 you earn.

If you are a sole trader and have a turnover in excess of £37,400, consider incorporating your business to a limited company to take advantage of the lower corporation tax rates.

A Partnership (not including a limited liability partnership) Similar to sole traders, each partner will benefit from an increase in personal income tax allowance to £7,475 per annum.

For businesses operating as a partnership, the profits can be allocated appropriately between the two partners to absorb two sets of Personal Allowances and the basic income tax rates. Nonetheless, a partnership should not be artificial and needs to be clearly evidenced including paperwork, bank account and the duties of each Partner.

A Limited Company- There is also some good news for limited companies. Starting from 1st April 2011, for headline rate of Corporation Tax (for companies with a turnover of £300,000+) will be reduced by 1% each year until it reaches 24%. The Small Companies Corporation Tax (for companies with a turnover of less than £300,000) rate will also be reduced next year from 21% to 20%. Moreover, if your company employs staff, the threshold at which you start to pay Class 1 National Insurance will be raised by £21 per week in April 2011.
